After seeing some amazing photos on the Face Book page led by Chuck Fitzgerald I contacted him to see if he would come and lead a presentation at our club. He agreed and how interesting he made his presentation. He showed us some of his light painting tools and some DIY ones he created. His slide show showed us some amazing photos he has done. I believe everyone enjoyed his presentation.
Mark Nowak asked him to come back and help with a workshop, so we could do hands on light painting. Chuck started by demonstrating tools and how to move them to make orbs, how to hold the lights, and to move slowly to get the best effect for the photo. We then moved outside to try some photos ourselves. Chuck helped us with our camera setting to get the best effect of the photo. After finding our focus points we took turns holding lights, moving around and then saying stop. “What does it look like?” “WOW that is cool!” would be heard. Now let’s try this, or that, anything goes.
Chuck had us in three groups and would go to each group and give suggestions. He would then demonstrate himself doing an orb, and wow what technique it takes to make those wonderful photo effects he can do. He ended the night by doing steel wool on fire, what a sight to be seen. I think everyone of us are going to be doing that again.
I believe everyone enjoyed seeing this type of photography and how it is done. Thanks Chuck Fitzgerald for taking your time to come and teach us about light painting. I hope we can meet again and light up the night and make some very interesting photos.
