There is nothing more “summer” than a county fair in August; and what a great place for ESPC to exhibit the works of some of our best photographers.
This year, I joined other Erie Shores Photography Club members to exhibit in the 2019 Lorain County Fair. As a novice, I found it to be an exciting and challenging event. There were about a dozen club members who participated by submitting their works in categories such as still life, nature, portrait, animal, buildings, action and more. The groups were divided into both color and black & white as well.
One category that I found particularly fun was the “Tell a Story” category. Here, each photographer was challenged to mount up to 10 photos on a display with the stipulation that combined, they tell a story. My entry, a photo essay of the changing of the guard at Arlington National Cemetery took first place honors in this category.
There were well over 200 photos submitted by the club members and others from the community. Many ESPC members garnered multiple first place wins and dozens of other awards for 2nd and 3rd places. Even though the competition was open to the general public, it was evident that ESPC took top honors in almost every category.
I would also like to give credit to the Lorain County Fair team for sponsoring a very well-organized professional event. Their support was irreplaceable.
Overall it was a fantastic opportunity to display some of my personal favorites and to be part of the set-up and take-down teams. This was a great opportunity to get to know some of the other ESPC members as well. They are a great bunch of folks. I look forward to this event again next year.
